Ensuring young people have healthy understanding about healthy relationships
Love and relationships in the curriculum
According to a report* this week, as many as 80% of Hong Kong youngsters find out about love, sex and courtship on the web or in other media. Many of today's parents expect schools to take on the job of explaining but are teachers well-prepared for the task?

The answer is 'no' according to a recent Federation survey, which found that teachers in local primary and secondary schools lacked the teaching materials, skills and time to help young people formulate a healthy attitude towards relationships.

To resolve this problem HKFYG recommends that social workers and teachers work together to develop systematic teaching kits and introduce the subject into the curriculum. Only when teaching about relationships is done in an atmosphere of openness and understanding, can we expect young people to grow up with those same attributes.

Healthy understanding and healthy attitudes equals healthy relationships.
